Saturday - I just can't stand the feel of.....

This lounger or whatever you call it has this rough, terrible covering on the seat. It is uncomfortable and I just can't stand the feel of it. Also, it is ugly.

I don't know what the covering is made of but I would never buy this piece of furniture.

Friday - Comfy Clothing

Well, this should be no surprise. My favorite comfy clothing is my pajamas, or jammies. Mine are all made of cotton so not only are they comfy, they are cool.

Me and Toby relaxing down by the water under a big tree with a cool breeze. Yes, that is my jammies.

Thursday - Favorite Fabrics

My favorite fabrics are anything made of cotton. I love cotton even though it wrinkles. It is cooler to wear than synthetics. Lots of days because of the heat, the women around here wear these little cotton dresses that they pick up in Mexico. They are very thin and therefore cool. Thadd got me these two. I don't usually wear them out anywhere because they are so thin you can just about see right through them. Sometimes I wear a pair of shorts underneath. That sort of defeats the purpose but I feel pretty naked underneath. LOL

They may look like nightgowns, but they are not. But they are definitely some of my favorite fabrics.

Wednesday - Curtains and cushions

This house only has curtains in the bedrooms. So here they are. Do you notice the ugly reddish paint with green and white curtains? I really dislike it but when you rent here, what you see is what you get.

The only cushions are these. Ugh!

While this house is roomy and has a beautiful view, the furnishings leave a lot to be desired.

Something more pleasant.....

Tuesday - Cotton

Just about everything we wear is cotton. We have found it to be cooler than synthetic fibers. Here is a picture of the clothes on our clothesline drying.

Everything there except for the red shorts are 100% cotton.

Fabrics

Our challenge this week is fabrics. We have a different type of fabric for each day of the week. Today, Monday is floral's.

Since we are renting this house furnished and have not brought our personal belongings here yet (except for clothing mostly), there is not a lot here that is of floral design. I have chosen what I can.

This is a freezer bag we use to take to town or to Mexico when we shop there. the bag is a canvas/cloth like material with a special lining to help to keep foods cold and frozen. It has a floral design on it.

These are the sheets in the guest bedroom. There are flowers on them.

And last but not least, my pajamas! LOL

Picture of Peppers

I'm sorry, I didn't realize the picture of the peppers didn't come up like it should so I am trying it again.

Colors in Nature - Sunday Red

I have enjoyed being back in the swing of the challenge this week. Of course, it has been an easy one! Thanks for the warm wishes from everyone on my return.

Hibiscus in our front yard

This is a Royal Poinciana taken from a neighbor's yard. It is really more of an orange red.

Here are a couple of pictures from our exploration yesterday. Didn't see anything much but lots of sugar cane growing and this iguana.

And last but not least, a shot of the Henry hamming it up.

Colors of Nature - Saturday Variegated

Most of the crotons are variegated but since I used them once already, I will use a different one that has more red than yellow and slender curly like leaves in stead of flat ones.

This may be stretching things a bit, but these hot peppers came from nature. An old gentleman was selling them from the back of his truck yesterday afternoon whie we were in town. They are pretty and bright (and I am sure hot). They appear to be Scotch Bonnets but I didn't ask.

Colors in Nature - Friday Greens

Greens I have plenty of! Everything around me here is green from the grass to the many trees and bushes.  Here are a few.

Clock tower in the town square. It is green but looks more blue in this picture.

Colors in Nature - Thursday White

These are the only white flowers I managed to find around us. I am sure there are more scattered about but I thought these were pretty. I believe this is a Yucca plant. We have several on the side of the house. The blooms come out right at the very top. The roots of non-flowering plants are eaten and a staple in many Belizean and Hispanic households. The root is also known as Cassava. It is widely sold at our markets in town. We have eaten it and it tastes like a bland potato. Of course when it is added to a stew, etc. it is quite good.

Yucca or Cassava Root

And the day wouldn't be over without a picture of the babies. I really miss them.

Henry has turned into quite the little ham.

Colors in Nature - Wednesday Pink

I hate to sound like a broken record, but there aren't a lot of pink flowers here either. I have taken pictures of what I could find.

There are a lot of pink houses here. I should have taken a picture of one of those. LOL

I could have added this one to the yellow challenge. And I can't resist one of the babies at the beach. It had a lot of blue in it.

Colors in Nature - Tuesday is Blue

I'm afraid I haven't seen any kind of blue flowers here. I will have to rely on some blue water and sky shots and a picture I had in my archives of a Hydrangea (which I love). The water shots were taken on our cruise in January. The other two are of water and sky here where we live.

Colors in Nature - Monday Yellow

Hello, sorry I haven't been able to blog but hope to start today and be able to keep up.

Our challenge this week is colors in nature. Well, we certainly have a lot of that here. I wish these beautiful yellow birds I keep seeing weren't so fast. I have yet been able to catch one still enough to take a picture. Today's picture is of the colorful Crotons that are here. They have lots of colors but yellow is definitely one of the prominent ones.

There is a tree blooming here with absolutely the most beautiful yellow flowers but I have only seen them in town. I will see if I can find a picture online because even in town, they are few and far between and the flowers don't last long. I think they are called a yellow chain tree. Sorry I don't have a picture I took. If I can, I will get one.

I hope everyone is well. Take care.

An Update with Some Pictures

I'm sorry I haven't been participating in the challenges but our internet is a little slow and we have been so busy getting settled in. We have now moved into a nice, big house right on the water. We were staying in a tiny cottage for the first few weeks and we were just trying to survive being right on top of each other and not having any AC. The house we are in now has it but we only run the AC in the bedroom at night. Electricity is very expensive here (or so we are told, we haven't gotten a bill yet).

So, we are adjusting to life here. It is very different from the states. You have heard of "island time"? Well, take what you may have heard and multiply it by 12. LOL!! No one, I mean, no one gets in a hurry here. We have been waiting for an ATM card from the bank for over a month now. If someone says they will come to your house on Monday (say a repairman), they may get here by Thursday or Friday. We are learning you just have to go with the flow. It is what it is.

Here are some pictures. This is the view from our back yard.

The house has two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. The yards are large and we sit underneath a big tree in the back and watch the water (and read) on days it is not too warm.

I will try to join back in the challenges once we are a little more settled. We just got satellite for our TV this past week. Everyone take care and you are all welcome to come visit! I have more pictures I will try to post later but I don't want to bore you all too much!

Oh, and I can't forget to put Spencer's first birthday picture on here or an updated one of Henry!
